how long does it take to learn the syntax of a programming language?
i hear people saying you should learn this language then that one then that one, and im very confused. how long does it take to memorize a language. if people are saying you should know like 5 then im assuming it isn’t that hard, but i might be mistaken. It might take several years. so tell me, how long on average does it take to learn a programming language.
how long for BASIC?
what about C++?
python?
C#?
and java?
Each individual will learn at their own pace, which is why I prefer to learn languages on my own with the Sams.net “in 21 days” books rather than take a class.
You will learn much more by looking at sample code and modifying it than you will from reading about syntax, but you still need to know all the tools available to you. This is why the 21 days books rule, they give some syntax and then you are immediately applying it, and you can tweak it to see what effect your changes have.
Memorization of every little detail is not required, you can find small desktop reference guides for all the languages.
