Learning German Fast…Is It Possible Or Just A Pipedream
Have you ever considered how easy it is to speak a new langauge…the reality is that it is an extremely complex skill set to learn. Some people may have a more natural affinity to learning a new language but ultimately everyone has to practice if they want to become fluent. Having said this, it is possible to learn German really fast provided you have the right motivation and can throw a bit of cash at it too.
The plan for learning German fast is pretty much as follows. Get yourself a German software or audio course. This will act as the perfect primer to the language. Get to know it very well. Use it all the time. Finish the course a couple of times. Immerse yourself as much as possible.
With this under your belt, you want to book an immersion course in a German speaking country. Ideally Germany is the best spot but you could also go to Austria or Switzerland. Typical immersion course can be a short as 2 weeks to 3 months. The most effective course will be the 3 month version but even a 2 week intensive course can do wonders for you
The plus point of learning in a German speaking country is that you can apply your learning instantly. The old problem with learning a foreign language in your own country is that you stop thinking in that language once you leave class or turn of your computer. Then you go back to thinking in English.
Another bonus of such a system is that any cultural references or things that you can’t directly experience in your own country can be experienced if you are in Germany. This can help to clarify things in previous lessons and make them more relevant to your life.
After you have done a course, you should try to spend a few months in the country. You could backpack round the country or take on a small job. This is your time for honing the skills you have learned. Ypu should try to engage people in conversation so a easy job that requires you to deal with people would be ideal.
The point of this exercise is to lose any insecurity about speaking aloud in German and effectively being in any way self conscious when speaking. The mindset you have to adopt is that German is as much my language as it is a native German speaking person.
You see, most people are learning new things about their native tongue all the time. They never stop learning because a language is vast and expanding. You have to comprehend and live with it. You will never stop learning new things about your new langauge. However if you have enough confidence then you will learn German as you speak and listen to people, just like a fluent speaker might do.
How quickly you progress still rests on your natural ability to some extent but ultimately to your application and deidcation to learning German. In short, develop or create a strong desire to learn German and then work hard at learning it.
