Starting Language Process at Three
When a child is three, he or she enters a period in which the understanding of words and their meanings will be done faster and easier. When a child turns three, he become very open to spoken learning likeeasy spanish , he always want to improve the way he speaks. This is the best moment if until now you didn’t have the courage to start the learning process. If you start addressing him in the foreign language, he will understand meanings better. As opposed to two year olds that imitate anything even without understanding, the three year old will only reproduce a new word after they assimilated the meaning correctly.
The closer a language is to his native language, the bigger the confusion will be. Children are not like adults and are more inclined to learn two languages that are very different from all points of view. At three, no child is 100% sure of all native language words he hears from adults, so trying to teach then words from another language that are too similar to some he hears every day might be very confusing. If you want them to understand the difference between two languages, you will have to choose two very different languages. The new language has to be as different as possible. For native English speakers languages like German are harder to teach to a child, but others like polish or learn spanish online are easier.
Don’t worry if the child says words form the foreign language in a funny way, the main responsible is the larynx, that is accustomed to reproduce sounds from the native language. The second language will be perfected in time, at the same time with the native one. Some kids do not distinguish the idea of two languages and simply learn two names for one object. You might catch him at times making sentences by combining the two languages. That’s why is important that we do not combine the two languages when we speak to him, and explain word meanings in the second language by pointing to objects.
You have to constantly remind the child of the new words. Early learning must be practiced every day, either by talking or watching a movies in that language, otherwise it’s pointless. Without practice, a child forgets as easily as he learns. Reading in the foreign language must not be forced. It’s not recommended to learn a child how to read in another language at the same time with his native language.
