How difficult is Arabic to learn as a second language, relative to, say learning French.?
What is a good place to start if interesten in persuing Arabic language for little cost? Where can I find Arabic ttf fonts for my computer.
Arabic is considered one of the hardest languages, and compared to English its much more complicated. Apart from the spelling it has many grammar specifications that are absent in English or other Latin languages.
i can tell you because I learned the language. For example numbers change according to the thing that is numbered, and there are different rules for different numbers. There are specific grammars to talk about singular, plural or even two persons. And others for gender and others for third person and they all integrate together to make completing a sentence in a right way so hard. There are also many spelling difficulties for an English speaker as for may be 8 letters are so hard to pronounce for you.
But nothing is impossible if you have the good will. There are many schools to teach Arabic for English speakers in the Middle East like in Lebanon, Syria and Egypt and there are many Americans and Europeans studying there.
I don’t know if I can help you now, but I’ve done a course in the University of Damascus and it wasn’t bad at all. And there is a good western community living and studying there.
You can check at Egyptian, Lebanese, Syrian or Jordanian embassies for learning schools. Also Arabic has many accents now; they differ from country to country. And most of the Europeans and Americans found the Syrian accent the easiest and closest to the Arabic found in books, (that’s why I learned it there). Good luck with your study. but if you want to take the easy way, I would say go for French much easier for a second language and even Spanish and German are easier if you have these options in mind
