On the contrary, Flamenco is only known just in one section of Spain; an autonomous community in Spain called Andalusia, which is viewed to be the largest in terms of land area in the country. It’s amazing that very little is researched about the beginnings of this popular type of dance.

It was a difficult period during the early centuries and there are a number of preconceive notions against Gypsies during that time which was considered to make up the poor people in Andalusia and which may have had a big influence in the roots of Flamenco. Other experts regarded that Flamenco is a mixture of gypsy dance and the descendants of Moorish music during the 8th century up until the 17th century; still, more people believed that aside from Moorish and gypsy influence, the music of India, Egypt and the music of the Byzantine church played an important role in shaping Flamenco. Since Flamenco is being practiced by the poor, upper class society and historians put in little time in recording and studying it, thus very little written records can be known about it. This accounts for the fact that there are almost no informations of Flamenco in historical literature and instead, much of this art form was transferred from time to time only through oral tradition.

Even in the contemporary era, historians and experts are still studying and researching to know the exact ancestry and history of Flamenco; even the origins of the name is still unclear. It’s quite extraordinary that this dance style affected people of different cultures even if it was heavily look down on in the beginning.
