Where’s the most beautiful natural scenery in Korea?
I’m looking for a university in Korea that teaches Korean to foreigners. I need to find one for a scholarship i’m applying to for study abroad. I’ve found a few, a couple in Daegu and one in Gwangju. I’m more partial to the one in Gwangju b/c Gwanju is a smaller city. I’m not a fan of gigantic cities. + The bigger the city the better the local’s English (which means I learn Korean slower).
However, I like nature aswell. What Korean metropolitan city in Korea has the best natural surroundings? I know in the city itself there wont be much nature, but I’m talking about close by. How is Gwangju? Also, does it snow in the winter in the south of Korea? Near gwangju and Busan? I’m looking for a place that will still get cold in the winter. Also, a lot of rain is a big + for me.
In the end I’ll really go anywhere, but I just want to check beforehand.
If it is snow during the winter, then a city farther north would be better. Yes, Seoul is a huge city, but if you live towards the northern extreme, there is a large mountainous area called B’ukansan. There are a lot of hiking paths there. Inchon is another area where you will get snow, but the airport is out in that direction.
Pusan is in close proximity to Kyungju which was the capital during the Shilla Dynasty. Alot of country side there, but I am doubtful about snowfall there. Same with Guangju. Both cities are in the southern part of SKorea and are a little warmer. As far as rainfall goes, that happens mostly during the summer time when the weather patterns come up from the Indian Ocean. Winter weather patterns come from Siberia and the Gobi Desert. If you want a smaller city near wilderness area and towards the north, there is a coastal town called Sokcho which is near Sorak Mountain (Soraksan) which definitely gets snow during the winter and early spring. That may be your best bet, but I am not sure if there is a university there.
