Why Young Children Should Learn A Foreign Language
2006

Why has foreign language study become…?
Why has foreign language study become a low priority in the United States education system?
Do you think that the US should make the same commitment to foreign language programs as many European countries have?
If you’d have had a choice, would you have learned a foreign language at a young age?
Just wondering! I think the US should realize the importance of foreign language programs and begin to teach children the importance of diversity and communication skills at a young age.
I agree with everyone’s answers so far. I’m in an Intro to Education class in college. I realize that not only foreign language programs are starting to diminish, but so are others, like art and music.
I think it is strongly important for foreign languages, art, and music to stay within the education cirriculum. Problem is, most schools today are finding it rather diffcult fund wise. They would love to have all three but a lot of schools have to cut back on one of them, or maybe all of them.
Foreign languages, art, and music are always good to learn. Foreign languages can aid you into getting a decent job. For example, resumes look good if you can speak more than 1 language, especially if you can speak Spanish and / or Chinese. Art and music help us become more culturally aware of the sights and sounds we come into contact with on a daily basis.
I would hope that the US realizes the importance of these. I would love to minor in all three of these, but as of right now, I am a minor of Italian so I can see where you are going with this.
I agree with the points you made 100%. Hope this helps!
